What it actually looks like

Our note
The name points at weaving materials but the site never says whether the children handle grasses or cedar bark themselves, so ask before you promise a class it is hands on. Book two weeks ahead, and only Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are offered.
What the children do
A school program for Grades 4 to 7 on traditional Nuu-chah-nulth culture, drawing on the museum collection. Programs run on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through the school year and must be booked at least two weeks ahead. There is a $50 fee for out of district schools and groups; the Beta Sigma Phi Legacy Fund covers the program fee for Port Alberni School classes. Programs are offered at two sites, the Museum and the Maritime Discovery Centre, and the site does not say which site this one runs at. Booking is through Sylvia Gropp, Education Curator, at 250-720-2501.
Good to know
The grade range, the booking notice, the days and the out of district fee are published, and the main floor of the museum is wheelchair accessible. How long the program lasts, how many children can come, washrooms and somewhere to eat lunch are not stated, so it is worth a call.
