What it actually looks like

Our note
This is the version to ask for if the class has already done a basic forest walk. It goes further into how forestry actually works rather than just naming trees.

What the children do

A guided forest walk for older classes covering tree parts and functions, forest recycling, forest technology and how trees are used as a resource, ending with a walk to the eagles' nest. The program includes a train ride. Price is per student and GST is added on top.

Walk through the mature forest with a guide, look closely at tree rings, timber stamps and how a forest recycles itself, and carry on to the eagles' nest. Then ride the train around the property and over the trestle.

Good to know

Portable washrooms and an outdoor picnic area are on site, and the main trails are step free. Bus parking and how many adults have to come are not published, so it is worth a call.

Sources disagree. Their web page and their printed program brochure give two different email addresses for the same education coordinator. If one bounces, try the other, or ring the office. We use the one from their tours page.
Sources disagree. Their brochure splits the forest programs into two tight grade bands while their web page says the same programs suit kindergarten right up to grade seven. If your class sits outside the narrow bands, say so when you book and ask whether they will adapt it.
Sources disagree. Their brochure says school programs run in May, June and September, while their web page says they run right through the season from Easter to Thanksgiving. Ask for the month you want and see what they say.
