Our note
The $75 is a flat fee for the tour rather than a charge per child, so it lands very differently on a group of eight than on a class of thirty. The museum says outright that it will negotiate or waive the fee for groups with limited funds, which is worth raising in your first email. Getting onto the base takes time. Allow about ten minutes on foot from the Naden main gate, and expect adults to be asked for photo ID.
What the children do
The museum coordinates guided and self-guided tours of its exhibits and displays and takes tour requests from visiting groups; staff will work with the group to tailor a tour. There is a $75 standard fee for guided tours and a discounted fee of $50 for seniors' tours. The museum states it can negotiate reduced fees for tours, or waive fees entirely, for groups and organizations with limited funds. Tours are also provided to Fleet School students and other personnel taking courses at CFB Esquimalt.
Walk through the exhibit rooms with a guide, looking at ship models, uniforms, a submarine control display and cases of naval instruments such as a sextant and an optical range finder.
Good to know
A flat tour fee, indoors, on a military base that requires photo ID at the gate. Nothing is published about washrooms, a lunch room, stroller or wheelchair access, or bus parking, so all of that needs a phone call.
