What it actually looks like

Our note
This one room is the reason to bring under-sixes; the rest of the museum is cases, text panels and models at adult height. Admission is a suggested donation rather than a set price, so ask what a group of that size is expected to give when you call. Remember too that the gate ID check applies to the adults, not the children.

What the children do

The museum's Oriole Gallery was designed specifically with children in mind and offers imaginative activities for youngsters between 4 and 8 years. Published gallery features are dress-up play 'uniforms', an introduction to naval terms, diver gear (flippers, masks) and life jackets, games and a magnet board, signal flags and activities, and nautical-themed books for children. Admission to the museum is by suggested cash donation: Adults $10, Seniors/Students $5, Families $25.

Put on the dress-up 'uniforms', try on flippers, masks and life jackets, play the games and the magnet board, handle the signal flags, and sit with the nautical picture books.

Good to know

Indoors, hands-on, and pitched at exactly the daycare age band. No washroom, lunch space, stroller or capacity information is published, and the donation is suggested rather than fixed.

Sources disagree. Their pages give different opening hours. One says seven days a week year round, another says weekdays only from September to April. If you are going at a weekend after Labour Day, phone first.
Sources disagree. Their contact page still carries an old temporary closure notice, while the rest of the site shows them open. Phone before you go.
Sources disagree. Their pages give three different building numbers on the base. Ask which building to come to when you book, and leave time to find it.
