Group visit with a guided tour
What it actually looks like
What the children do
The museum says that if a group is visiting Chemainus and would like a tour, it will arrange one. You ask by email or by leaving a phone message. Nothing is published about the price, the group size it can take, how long a tour runs or how far ahead to ask, and there is no online booking. The current special exhibit, None Came Back, is presented in ten panels and includes a display made by a grade 7 humanities class from Chemainus, with more of the class projects on show at the Chemainus library.
Walk through the galleries with a guide and look at logging and sawmill artifacts, First Nations photographs and the ten panels of the None Came Back exhibit. Outside there is a viewpoint beside the building that looks over the mill site, the log booms and the harbour.
Good to know
The museum sits in Waterwheel Park in the middle of town, so there is somewhere outdoors to eat and let children move. Toilets, indoor lunch space, step free access, coach parking and the price of getting in are all missing from the site, so a phone call is worth it.
