What it actually looks like

Our note
These run on the gallery's own dates, so it is not something you can book for a class on a morning of your choosing. If a date lines up with your week it is a genuinely good free outing. Ask whether the session is on the outdoor plaza or inside, because several of them are outside under tents.

What the children do

Drop in art making sessions and workshops held at the gallery, tied to whatever exhibition is on at the time. Materials are provided and facilitators are on hand to give instruction. They are open to people of all ages and abilities and there is no charge, though children have to be accompanied by an adult. The gallery runs them on its own set dates rather than on request, so the events listings are the place to look for the next one. Recent sessions have been held in tents on the gallery plaza as well as indoors.

Work at tables with materials the gallery supplies while a facilitator shows them how. Past sessions have included screen printing, painting a community mural, collage, making paper kites, lanterns and tie dye shirts.

Good to know

Materials, instruction, toilets and a step free building are all covered, and there is no cost. Lunch space, bus parking and how many children they can take at once are not stated.
