Estuary Explorers school program
What it actually looks like
What the children do
The centre's school program, run at the Nature Centre on Thursdays in two sessions, 9:30 to 11:00 and 11:30 to 13:00. Children explore how animals use their shape, size, colour and behaviour to survive, how fast changing conditions affect them, and what people can do to keep habitats healthy. The site lists the age range as K to 5 and gives sample curriculum links in science from Kindergarten to Grade 4. It costs $10 a student, and the most a group pays is $250, which is 25 students at $10 each. You book through a form on the page, choosing a Thursday date and a morning or afternoon session. The page says the program runs all school year and that dates begin on 8 October 2026.
Take part in hands on activities and up close encounters with estuary animals, then talk through what they noticed. The site says learners look at how animals use shape, size, colour and behaviour to survive, and work out what would help keep those homes healthy.
Good to know
This is at the Nature Centre in Hecate Park, right on the water. Toilets, somewhere to eat and coach parking are not mentioned anywhere on the site, so ask when you book.
