Our note

This is the only entry on the Society's site that a Victoria group can actually use locally - you collect gear from the Regatta Landing office rather than attend a program, and the site says to contact them in advance to coordinate. A B.C. fishing licence still applies to the adults; check who in your group needs one before you go.

What the children do

A free equipment loan rather than a visit: families and other groups can borrow spinning rods with reels and a basic box of tackle at no cost. Rod Loan locations are Society hatcheries plus a number of tourism visitor centres and tackle shops throughout the province. The listed locations include the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC Corporate Office at 80 Regatta Landing, Suite 101, Victoria, and the Vancouver Island Trout Hatchery at 1080 Wharncliffe Road, Duncan; both are marked "Contact us in advance to coordinate". The program is supported by Luhr Jensen. Nothing is published about how many rods a group may borrow, for how long, or whether a deposit is needed.

Good to know

Rods and a basic tackle box are lent free from the Victoria corporate office and the Duncan hatchery, by prior arrangement. Numbers of rods, loan length, deposits and any age limits are not published.
