What it actually looks like

Photos from Heritage Acres's website
Our note
Everything here rests on a phone call: the website has not been refreshed since about 2018, so treat its hours, prices and event dates as out of date and ring 250.652.5522 first. Ask specifically whether the buildings will be unlocked on the day you want and whether anyone will be demonstrating the blacksmith shop or sawmill, because on an ordinary day the site is mostly a walk among static machinery. It is outdoors and spread out, with no rain shelter mentioned.

What the children do

A visit to the Heritage Acres site: the museum building, the heritage buildings and the machinery collection, with trails and picnic areas through the woods. The restored Saanichton schoolhouse has one room refitted to show what the classroom originally looked like, and the rest of that building is available for group meetings and receptions. No admission price, opening hours, group rate, school programme or booking process is published on the site; the only admission figures found anywhere on it are gate prices on an expired 2018 event page, which have not been recorded here as current.

Walk the trails between the heritage buildings and picnic areas, look at tractors, steam and gas engines, old cars and a retired transit bus, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop and a boat house of marine artifacts, and step inside the restored one-room schoolhouse and the log cabin.

Good to know

Trails and several picnic areas on site, so an outdoor lunch works. Admission price, opening hours, washrooms, rain backup, bus parking and stroller or wheelchair access are not stated anywhere on the site.
