Our note
The $100 covers the whole class rather than each child, so with 30 children it works out around three dollars each. There is no travel and no theatre sound, which makes this the easier version for a group that would struggle with the dark and the volume.
What the children do
A documentary of 40 to 45 minutes streamed for viewing in your own classroom, chosen from a short selection that currently includes Humpback Whales, Dream Big, Dolphins and Fungi: The Web Of Life. Educator resources come with each screening, including lesson plans, activities, discussion questions and supporting documents. The fee is $100.00 plus GST per class, with a maximum of 35 students per classroom, and bookings need at least five business days' notice.
Watch a 40 to 45 minute documentary on the classroom screen, then work through the activities and discussion questions that come with it.
Good to know
This runs in your own room, so washrooms, lunch and weather are your own arrangements. The fee is per class and excludes GST, and the cap is 35 students in a classroom.
Sources disagree. Their pages give two different answers on how much notice to give. One says two business days, the other says five. Five is on the page they update most, so allow that and you are safe either way.
Sources disagree. One page says arrive fifteen minutes early and their printed booking guide says thirty. With a group of small children and any snacks to collect, thirty is the safer plan.
Sources disagree. Two of their pages give different numbers of wheelchair spaces, six on one and eight on the other. If you need more than one space, say so when you book rather than counting on either number.
Sources disagree. Their pages disagree about when the group office is open, one says nine to four and the other nine to five. Ring in the morning and you will reach someone either way.
Washrooms
During a Hollywood feature there are three stairs to access the washrooms because the gift shop is closed. For step free access, exit through the doors you came in by and ask a staff member or the security desk for the Royal BC Museum accessible washroom.
