Ucluelet Cabin Cruiser Bear Watching
What it actually looks like
What the children do
A 2.5 to 3 hour black bear watching trip from Ucluelet along the shoreline of Barkley Sound aboard a cabin cruiser with indoor heated seating, an open rear deck and a marine toilet. Departures are set by the low tide, so the time changes from day to day. The price list states that infants aged 0 to 2 are not permitted on the tour. No food or drink other than water may be brought on a bear tour. If the boat does not see a bear, everyone gets a Raincheck Ticket for a free second tour.
Ride a heated cruiser into calm inlet water at low tide and watch the rocky shore for black bears flipping stones over to find crabs and clams, with the crew pointing out eagles, seals and sea lions along the way.
Good to know
There is a toilet on the boat, free parking at the Ucluelet office and a heated cabin, but no food is allowed on board and the departure time moves with the tide. A group rate, a group booking route and bus parking are not published, so plan on a phone call.
