What it actually looks like

Our note
Two boat trips of nearly three hours each is a lot for small children, so splitting them across two days is worth asking for. The price shown on the site is a starting figure with no child rate beside it, so get a quote before you count on it.

What the children do

A package of two separate Ucluelet tours, one whale watching and one bear watching, which can be taken on the same day or on different days. Each tour is 2.5 to 3 hours. The listing says ages 3 and up. The site shows only a starting price for the package and no breakdown by age, so the cost for a child is not recorded here.

Two boat trips in Barkley Sound, one out towards open water looking for grey whales and humpbacks, and one tucked into calm water at low tide watching black bears forage along the shore.

Good to know

It is two separate boat trips of 2.5 to 3 hours each, bookable on the same day or apart. The actual price per child is not published, so ask for a quote when you call.

Sources disagree. Their own pages give different answers for when bear watching runs from Ucluelet. One says mid April to the end of September, another says April 15 to October 15. If you are looking at late September or October, check the dates when you book.
Sources disagree. Two of their pages disagree about when whale watching starts in Ucluelet. The Ucluelet page says early February, the home page says March. Worth settling when you book if you want an early spring date.
Sources disagree. The site says the Ucluelet boats take children 3 and older, but the private tour listing says all ages. If anyone under three is coming, ask whether they can be on an Ucluelet boat at all before you plan around it.
Sources disagree. The six hour kayak tour from Ucluelet is listed as ages 12 and up in the tour details and ages 4 and up in the price list on the same page. It is a long trip in open ocean swell. Settle the age on the phone before you book.
