School field trip request
What it actually looks like
What the children do
The regional district treats any school visit to one of its parks or trails as a field trip that has to be requested in advance, and that includes the Kinsol Trestle. The request goes in online or on a PDF form, and it asks for the date and time, the number of students and supervisors, how many adults hold first aid certificates and how many vehicles are coming. Requests must arrive at least 30 days before the visit and late ones are not accepted. A request can be turned down if another booking already has the park, if the group would push the park past what it can hold, or if there was not enough notice. Schools also have to show proof of general liability insurance naming the regional district, with a minimum limit of two million dollars, unless the trip is already covered by the Schools Protection Program.
The visit itself is the same walk out to the trestle. The form is the paperwork the adults do first.
Good to know
Same site facilities as any other visit, with year round toilets and a flat gravel trail. No cost, group size limit or bus parking is published for a school visit, so ask when you send the form.
