Passport to Nature events
What it actually looks like
What the children do
An annual series of dated nature events run by TLC at sites across British Columbia, including TLC protected areas that are normally closed to the public, plus some online sessions. Sessions are led by TLC staff and board, local nature experts and naturalists, and cover things like ecological restoration, plant and fungi identification and pollinator friendly gardening. Registration is free unless the listing says otherwise, and is required for events that have a cap on numbers. The events are described as family friendly and as catering to a wide range of abilities, though some are more physically demanding than others, so each listing has to be read on its own. Events listed for autumn 2026 were a Fall Open House and plant sale at Abkhazi Garden on 13 September, Ayum Creek Plant the Peninsula on 17 October, a Fungi ID Walk at John Dean Park on 7 November and a Festive Market from 12 to 20 December. A full season booklet is published as a PDF.
Walk with a naturalist on land that is usually closed to the public, stop to look closely at plants and fungi and learn to name them, and at the restoration days pull invasive plants out or put young plants into the ground.
Good to know
Most events are free, some run online and the rest happen at TLC sites around B.C. rather than at one address. Nothing is published about washrooms, lunch space, ages or how many adults have to come, so ask when you register.
