What it actually looks like

Our note
The play half is outdoors, so bring what the weather needs and something to sit on. It runs for about five weeks in late spring only, so it is easy to miss. For summer 2026 the meeting spot is sent out closer to the day rather than published, so watch for that email.

What the children do

An outdoor costumed play on the grounds followed by a guided tour inside the Parliament Buildings, about 80 minutes in total and free. Teachers choose between two plays. Who's in Charge? is recommended for grades K to 6 and follows a parliament of owls looking at British Columbia's system of government, with a tour focused on participation and representation. The Story of Here is recommended for grades 7 to 12 and looks at how the Parliamentary Precinct has been shaped by Indigenous history, colonialism, democracy and the suffrage movement. Maximum of 35 students and 5 adults, and they normally ask for a minimum of 15 people. Runs Tuesday, May 19, 2026 to Tuesday, June 23, 2026 on weekdays only.

Sit outside on the grounds to watch a short play performed by actors in period costume, then go inside for a guided tour of the building.

Good to know

Free, about 80 minutes, capped at 35 students with 5 adults, and they usually want at least 15 people. Two start times a day on weekdays, and the meeting spot is confirmed nearer the date.

Sources disagree. Three of their pages give three different phone numbers for tour enquiries. They are 250 387 9243 on the school tours page, 250 387 1771 on the Little Legislators page and 250 387 6668 on the general tour information page. Email tours@leg.bc.ca is given consistently on all three, so that is the safer first try.
Washrooms
If possible, plan to use washrooms prior to your arrival as the public washrooms in the Parliament Buildings are not well suited to large groups. If it is not possible, please let your guide know that you would like a washroom break included as part of the tour.
