What it actually looks like
Our note
Useful when you cannot get a tour slot or you want a short stop rather than a whole morning. You still go through security screening at the main entrance, so leave a few extra minutes with a group. A big group turning up unannounced is worth phoning about first.
What the children do
Visitors are welcome to walk the public parts of the Parliament Buildings on their own at any time between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday excluding holidays, all year round. Self guided tour books are available in a variety of languages at the Tour Desk. No booking is needed. On summer weekends, when the buildings are also open, visitors must join a guided tour instead.
Walk through the public rooms at their own pace, following a printed tour book picked up at the Tour Desk.
Good to know
Free, weekdays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm all year, and no booking needed. No group size limit is published for this, and there is no parking on site.
