What it actually looks like

Our note
This is the route for a group that is not a school class, a daycare outing for instance. The 15 person limit is small, so a bigger group will need to be split or booked as two visits.

What the children do

A guided walk led by an experienced nature interpreter, arranged by contacting the office. It is offered for up to 15 people with a suggested donation of $65 for the group. The sanctuary does not publish how long it lasts or what ages it suits.

Walk the forest trails with an interpreter who stops along the way to point out how the forest fits together.

Good to know

Washrooms are at the entrance and at the Morrell Lake picnic shelter and there are picnic benches to eat at. No age limit, length or start time is published, so all of that has to be agreed with the office.

Sources disagree. Their school programs page lists Forest Detectives twice and gives two different answers for which grades it is for. One says kindergarten to grade 7, the other says grades 3 to 7. Their fall flyer says kindergarten to grade 7, which is what we have used, so it is worth confirming your grade when you book.
Washrooms
There are restroom facilities at the entrance, and at the sheltered picnic area at Morrell Lake.
Lunch space
There are picnic benches at the entrance, and viewing benches located throughout our 11km of trails. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and drinks. However, they are responsible for carrying out any garbage they generate.
