Our note
This is the only one of their programs that runs the whole way from kindergarten to grade 12, so it is the safest pick if you are unsure what will land with your group. Say your grade in the request form and ask how they pitch it.

What the children do

A two hour guided program on the three linguistic and cultural First Nations groups of northern Vancouver Island, the Kwakwaka'wakw, Coast Salish and Nuu-chah-nulth, and on the artistic styles in their crests. The museum says it can be adapted for any grade level and that it also runs by video conferencing for classes at a distance.

Take an interactive tour of the First Nations Gallery, then make their own paint from ochre and salmon eggs.

Good to know

Washrooms and a picnic area on site, and the building is wheelchair accessible with a courtesy wheelchair to borrow. Whether there is somewhere indoors to eat and where a bus can pull in are not stated, so it is worth a call.

Sources disagree. Two of their pages give different grade ranges for the colonization program. One says grades 8 to 12 and the booking form says 6 to 12. If you have a grade 6 or 7 class, ask before you count on it.
Sources disagree. They give two different grade ranges for the archaeology program, one starting at grade 7 and one at grade 6. A grade 6 class may or may not be eligible, so check when you book.
Sources disagree. The Haig-Brown tour is described as two hours in one place and one hour in another. Plan your bus for the longer one and confirm the length when you book.
