What it actually looks like

Our note
Half an hour of this is outside whatever the weather, so dress the group for it. The grade band is wide, so tell them where your class actually sits when you request it.

What the children do

A two hour program on the Pacific fur trade and its short and long term effects on northern Vancouver Island, using the First Nations and Transitions Galleries. Thirty minutes of it is outdoors.

Look at coastal trade networks in two galleries, then take the part of European fur traders and use leadlines to chart the ocean floor.

Good to know

Washrooms and a picnic area on site, and the building itself is wheelchair accessible. Part of this one is outside and there is nothing published about a wet weather plan, so ask when you book.

Sources disagree. Two of their pages give different grade ranges for the colonization program. One says grades 8 to 12 and the booking form says 6 to 12. If you have a grade 6 or 7 class, ask before you count on it.
Sources disagree. They give two different grade ranges for the archaeology program, one starting at grade 7 and one at grade 6. A grade 6 class may or may not be eligible, so check when you book.
Sources disagree. The Haig-Brown tour is described as two hours in one place and one hour in another. Plan your bus for the longer one and confirm the length when you book.
