Artists in the Schools
What it actually looks like
What the children do
The gallery sends practising artists into classrooms in SD68 and SD69 to run hands on workshops. The directory on their schools page lists 21 of them, in visual art, pottery, dance, theatre, music and creative writing, each with its own grade band and its own artist. Titles include Clay Story Stones, Pinch Pot Creatures, Drama Games Galore, Styrofoam Plate Printing and Zine Making, and the bands run from kindergarten to grade 12. Bookings are taken through the school year, at least two weeks ahead, and the form also accepts schools and organisations in Nanaimo, Ladysmith, Parksville and Qualicum. No price is published.
Work with a visiting artist in their own classroom, making something with their hands or performing, depending on which workshop the teacher picks.
Good to know
It happens in your room, so washrooms, lunch and parking are your own. What is missing is the price, which is nowhere on the site, and the form asks for a contact for invoicing, so there is a charge to ask about.
