School tour
What it actually looks like
What the children do
The museum takes school groups on a tour of its fossil collection and its local history exhibits, on request. It says students learn about the social and natural history of Qualicum Beach and area through hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning. The museum is working with district schools to re-develop its educational programs around the K-12 BC curriculum, and says school tours are still available in the meantime. Nothing is published about how long a tour runs, how many children it takes, what ages it suits, how much notice is needed, or whether a group pays anything beyond the museum's usual donation.
Look at fossils and objects from the town's past on the ground floor, then go up the stairs into the rooms about fishing, logging, the old train station and the Qualicum Beach Hotel. The museum says students take part in hands-on activities rather than only looking.
Good to know
Nothing is published about toilets, a place to eat indoors, step free access or where a bus can park, so those are all worth a phone call. Admission is by donation and the grounds outside, with a garden, a gazebo and a totem pole, are open to walk around.
