What it actually looks like

Our note
Grades, price and loan length are not on the part of the page we could read, so treat this as a call rather than a booking. Ask what it costs, how long you keep it and whether the pack you want suits your age group.

What the children do

A curated set of specimens, artifacts, reproductions and props from the museum's handling collection, with an identification key, lent out for open ended classroom use. The packs listed are Archaeology, Botany, Entomology, Invertebrate, Modern History, Paleontology in two versions called Fossils versus Wood and Replica versus Fossil, and Vertebrate. Each pack has its own online booking calendar. How the pack is used is left to the teacher, and the museum invites classes to share what they make on its Learning Portal.

Handle real and replica specimens in their own classroom, sort and compare them against an identification key, and use them however the teacher has planned rather than following a set lesson.

Good to know

Nothing to arrange on site. The cost, the loan period and the age range are all unpublished, so ask about all three before you plan a session around it.

Sources disagree. Their online session page says up to 30 people, then says to email for a webinar version if your group is over 50. If your class sits between the two numbers it is not clear which applies, so ask when you book.
Sources disagree. Two of their pages describe the hardship discount differently. One just says a discounted rate, the other says 25 per cent. Ask for the exact figure when you request it, and note there are only a few each month.
