What it actually looks like

Our note
The museum is downstairs in the Olde Post Office building, so plan the route in before you arrive. The front door is down two short flights of stairs and the step-free way in is round the back off Fourth Street, where a volunteer has to open the lower doors for you. Nothing about cost, group size or how long to allow is published, so one phone call will settle the whole visit.

What the children do

The school programs page currently says to check back for more information soon, so there is no guided program running. Classes are welcome to visit on a self-guided basis. Arrange it by emailing outreach@sidneymuseum.ca or calling 250-655-6355. The site does not publish a price, a group size limit, an age range or a visit length.

Walk through the permanent galleries at their own pace, looking at objects from the history of Sidney, North Saanich and the Saanich Peninsula, plus whatever featured exhibit is up. In the front area there is a LEGO brick train table with a village and a train running on a circular track.

Good to know

Both levels are reachable by elevator if you come in from the rear on Fourth Street. Washrooms, somewhere to eat and how many adults you need are not mentioned anywhere on the site, so ask when you arrange the date.

Sources disagree. Their own pages give two different street numbers on Beacon Avenue, 2434 and 2423. It is the same place either way, the lower level of the Olde Post Office building between Fourth and Fifth Streets. We use 2423, which is the one in the footer of every page.
