What it actually looks like

Photos from Sooke Region Museum's website
Our note
This is the option if your group is outside Kindergarten to Grade 8 or you have missed the two booking sessions. Nothing about price, group size or notice is published for it, so treat one phone call as part of the plan. Ask at the same time whether Moss Cottage and the lighthouse will be open, since those are only unlocked for booked groups.

What the children do

Outside the school tour sessions, a group can come during opening hours. Museum entrance is by donation and no group rate is published. Tours inside Moss Cottage or the Triangle Island Lighthouse can be added to a group booking, but the site does not say what those cost or how long they take. The rates document the site links to did not open, so ask for current figures.

Look round the indoor exhibits on First Nations basketry, mining, forestry and maritime history, watch the All Sooke Day film, and walk the grounds where the Forestry Path, the Servants Quarters and the Triangle Island lighthouse are laid out.

Good to know

Parking is free and the grounds are open in daylight. Washrooms, somewhere to eat and a rain plan are not mentioned, and neither is a price for groups, so call before you commit a date.

Sources disagree. Two of their pages disagree about which September fall bookings open in, one says 2025 and one says 2026. The school tours page is the one they keep current. If you are planning a fall visit, phone and ask whether the fall list is open yet.
