Specialty Program, one activity for the week
What it actually looks like
What the children do
A week immersed in a single activity, with 2 to 3 nights camping out. The choices published for 2026 are an introductory or intermediate hike, the Brewster Lakes and Sayward Forest canoe portage route, ocean canoeing from Mutchalat Inlet, sea kayaking in Nootka Sound, whitewater kayaking or canoeing on the Campbell or Gold River, rock climbing at Crest Creek Crags, wilderness skills, mountain biking, a rock and cave combination, and a Buttle Lake canoe trip. Two lodge instructors are provided for every 10 students and a teacher or chaperone is optional.
Learn one skill properly and then travel with it. Depending on the choice they paddle a sea kayak for two to six hours at a stretch, portage a canoe up to 2 km, rappel down a 20 metre rock face, crawl through caves, or ride a mountain bike for three to six hours a day, sleeping under a tarp for two or three nights.
Good to know
Gear, meals and special diets are all handled by the lodge. Camping out means no washrooms on some nights, and nothing is published about step free access or bus parking.
