What it actually looks like

Our note
Under fours get in free, but every hands on option starts at eight, so a preschool group is looking and watching rather than holding a bird. If you want something hands on for four to seven year olds, ask at the gift shop on the day about the Kids Encounter.

What the children do

All day admission to the centre with a flying demonstration included. Adults are $28, youth aged 4 to 17 are $20, children aged 0 to 3 are free, and a group of four or more gets 10 percent off. This is the published walk in rate rather than a rate written for schools. Reservations are not required, and re-entry on the same day is allowed if you get a stamp at the gift shop.

Walk the paths past the aviaries at their own pace to look at eagles, hawks, owls and vultures, then watch a flying demonstration where the birds fly overhead and an educator talks about them.

Good to know

Parking is free, picnic benches are there for a packed lunch, and the only food sold is light snacks. Washrooms are not mentioned anywhere on the site, which is worth a call before you bring a young group.
