Our note
Children under 8 come in free and the $5 rate only starts at age 8, so a preschool group would mostly be paying for its adults. There is no group rate on the site, so ask whether a class is charged per head or quoted as a whole. Prices are before tax.
What the children do
The centre is open to the public. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, $5 for youth aged 8 to 18, and free for children under 8. A family rate of $30 covers 2 adults and 4 children under 18. GST is not included, and admission is free to members and to Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw. No group rate, school rate or group booking route is published for a self-guided visit.
Walk through the galleries at their own pace and look at the masks and other regalia of the Potlatch Collection, along with exhibits on the traditional ethnobiology of the Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw, the origin stories of the villages, and historical and contemporary objects.
Good to know
The admission prices, the address and the opening times are published, and the visit is indoors. Washrooms, somewhere for a group to eat, and whether a group has to book ahead are not stated anywhere, so it is worth a call.
Sources disagree. Their own pages give two different answers for the opening days. The contact page says Monday to Friday, and a post about the current exhibit says 7 days a week. The weekend matters here because the Saturday tour and the summer dance performances both fall outside weekday hours, so settle it when you book.
