What it actually looks like

Photos from Victoria Butterfly Gardens's website
Our note
It is 26 to 30 degrees and humid inside, so coats and outdoor layers come off at the door and someone has to carry them. Outside food is not allowed in and there is no cafe, so plan lunch off site, before or after.

What the children do

The group rate applies to bookings of 10 or more paying guests, made at least 48 hours ahead, with one combined payment for all admissions. They take cash, VISA, MasterCard, AMEX and debit. The group rate itself is not published on the site. Annual passes, coupons and other discounts cannot be combined with it. The site says most visitors spend 45 minutes to 1.5 hours in the Gardens, which is a guide rather than a booked slot.

Walk a looping path through a warm, humid indoor jungle, looking for free flying butterflies and birds, poison dart frogs, tortoises, an iguana, a flamingo and koi in the pond. The Gardens publish two scavenger hunt lists children can work through as they go.

Good to know

Fully indoors and step-free, with free parking and strollers allowed, so weather is not a worry. They do not publish the group price, whether a bus can park, or anything about washrooms, so ask when you book.

Sources disagree. Their group page gives two different answers about guided tours. One line says tours run by request from October to April, another says they cannot do tours after June 25th. If you want a guided tour, settle it when you book.
