Visit the Whale Interpretive Centre
What it actually looks like
What the children do
The centre is open to the public 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, 7 days a week, and admission is by donation for the 2026 season. The inside is still undergoing improvements and is not quite finished, and staff are there to greet visitors and share information about the marine mammals of the area. The site publishes no group rate, no group booking route, no minimum age and no capacity limit.
Walk the Telegraph Cove boardwalk to the building at the far end, whose entrance faces Johnstone Strait, then go inside to look at marine mammal skeletons and specimens, including a Dall's porpoise, a Risso's dolphin and the only pygmy sperm whale ever recorded in British Columbia. Staff are on hand to talk about the whales, dolphins and porpoises of the area and to answer questions.
Good to know
The visit is indoors at the end of the Telegraph Cove boardwalk, open seven days a week from 9:30 to 5:30, and admission is by donation. Washrooms, a place to eat, wheelchair and stroller access and parking for a bus are not stated anywhere on the site, so it is worth a call first.
