Our note
This is the do it yourself option. You get the buildings, the beds and the meals, and you run the programme yourself. If you want camp staff to lead climbing or boating, book that early because it is charged separately and depends on availability.

What the children do

You can rent Camp Thunderbird and run your own programme. Overnight rental fees include a group liaison and use of the buildings, cabins and meeting spaces, charged at $33.00 a bed and $11.50 a meal. Day rental groups pay a use fee for the building they use, either Shoemaker Hall for up to 50 people or Hyas House for up to 200. Camp staff can lead activities such as rock climbing, high ropes, boating on the lake, archery, orienteering and an evening wide game with campfire, each charged separately and subject to availability. All food prepared in the commercial kitchen must be prepared by camp kitchen staff. Standard check in is 3:00pm, check out from cabins is 8:00am and site departure is 2:00pm. The camp is alcohol and tobacco free and does not rent for weddings or parties.

Good to know

Cabins, yurts, a dining hall and an indoor hall are on site, with shower houses and washrooms nearby. Bookings assume at least 20 people and overnight groups get priority, so a small day group may struggle to get a date.

Sources disagree. Their own pages give two different answers for how many adults have to come on an overnight stay. One says one adult per nine children, the other says one per eight. We use one per eight, from their 2026 teacher booklet. Worth settling when you book, because it changes how many staff you need.
Sources disagree. The price for bringing camp staff to your school is confusing on their own page. The column is labelled as a price for each participant, but the rows are priced by group size, so it reads as a price for the whole group. We have taken it as the whole group. Confirm the total before you commit.
Sources disagree. Three different phone numbers for the camp appear across their pages. We use the one their camp page calls the new number. If it does not connect, the older camp line and the main Y office number are both still listed.
Sources disagree. The same camp address is written two ways on their own pages, one ending in ca and one in com. We use the ca version, which is what the rest of their site uses. If one bounces, try the other.
Washrooms
The three Animal Cabins have a 3-piece washroom in cabin. The yurts have a shower and washroom house nearby, and the Shrub Cabins have a shower house and outhouse nearby.
Lunch space
Day groups can choose to eat in the dining hall or bring their own lunches, which are enjoyed in a picnic area at camp.
